Sour Cream Muffins

My grandmother used to make these muffins a lot, and I simply loved them! It is a fairly plain muffin, but there is just something about them that makes them special; for me, it's the happy memories of time with Grandma! (You could probably add blueberries or another type of berries to dress them up a little.)

When I make these muffins, I like to fill the muffin cups with batter almost to the top, so when they bake the tops bubble over and you get muffins with big tops. After all, the top is the best part, isn't it!?

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter (I use Butter Flavor Crisco)
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. vanilla
8 oz. sour cream
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
2 cups flour
pinch of salt
sugar

Cream sugar and butter; add eggs and vanilla and cream again. Sift dry ingredients. Add half of the flour mixture and half of the sour cream alternately to the sugar/butter mixture; beat. Add remaining flour and sour cream and mix well. Spoon into greased muffin tins. Before baking, sprinkle tops of muffins with sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
